Timeless Beauty

There is something about vintage anything that is SO appealing to me. You can find me in antique malls and flea markets for hours just rummaging through what looks like to be junk and coming back with some definite finds! I love the 70's back (sorry 80's, but you were a little much... And don't even get me started on the 90's! Well, I take the back, Full House...I will always love you, not matter how cheesy!) but my absolute favorites have to be 20s-50's. I am so in love with the clothing back then. The suits, the fedoras for men and the beautiful hats for women. *Sigh* Things were still kept classy, and I think that's why I tend to be attracted to this time period. I find a lot of my inspiration from vintage photography, especially for boudoir sessions. I just love, love, love those old risque photographs that were oh-so-scandalous back in the day! Women didn't have to bear all and it was STILL so sensual.

My last boudoir session was so much fun. I met Nikki through Alaina because Alaina actually assisted her when she was getting her hair career started years back. Nikki does all those fun runway shows and is a part of the set team at Rust Salon in Hollywood. She contacted me because it was her man's birthday soon, and she wanted to surprise him with some special pictures. :) Now, before every shoot, I always brainstorm and come up with a theme that I want to stick to. I'm a big supporter of "tear-outs." Whether it be a certain type of edit, wardrobe, props, whatever...if I see something I like online or in a magazine, I tear it out and use that as a reference to what I base my shoots off of. Nikki said she wanted something along the line of pin-up and something retro so that's what we had originally had the idea of doing. I always try and make each session unique...and you see pin up as a regular and common option for boudoir. Don't get me wrong, I looove pin up. Elvgren and cheesecake...classic! But I wanted to spice it up a little bit more and give her something that you don't see often. Alaina and I were brainstorming the night before and were throwing out different ideas. And all of sudden, BAM, I knew what I wanted this shoot to be! I told Alaina and we got all giddy like girls do late at night...Hahaha. I couldn't think for the life of me how to describe those pictures in google so we could search for them... A long time later, it came to me and we found a lot of inspiration for our shoot. We showed Nikki the next morning and she fell in love. Good thing Nikki brought her whole lingerie drawer, because we found the perfect pieces to put together to fit the look we wanted. She looked beautiful with all her hair, makeup, and styling finished. She was shy and reserved at first, but by the first couple of poses, she had it down, and she knew she looked good!!! Hehehe.

Nikki, thank you for trusting us to do your photos. You were so much fun and did an awesome job as model. :) Here are some of my favorites. We also did a few 70's themed photos. I would have loved to post more, but those ones are for that lucky man only! :) Enjoy!

My Angel

I can't believe my baby girl is growing so quickly. I longer shop for her in the infant section...she's moved up to the Toddler section! These last couple of months, I haven't taken too many pictures of her. And thinking back, it makes me sad! At this age, they have new tricks and faces they make every week, every day even, and I want to make sure I get all of those. Those sweet memories can get lost in the haze of daily tasks and worries...and this age is just so precious. I will not lose any of those...

That's my baby girl! Skating like Mama and Dadda! She loved scootin' around all by herself and learned that if she pushed hard enough on the ground and lifted her legs, that she would glide a good distance. Made us so proud.

Recouping...

Crazy, crazy week. But now, I can make time to play catch up and recoup emotionally and virtually. :) My husband is on his 3rd deployment, so as you can imagine, things at home are gloomy. As long as I keep busy (which doing all this catching up should help me stay that way) I will be fine and the time will go by as quickly as these last months! As I mentioned before, I had some sessions that I needed to post.

Here are a few of my senior portraits I did of my brother-in-law, Brandon, that I just adore. He's graduating a year early from High School! We had a very small window of time to do this shoot, and that window was in very unfavorable lighting conditions. But we still made it work! Here are a few of my favorites. We took a lot of goofy fun ones, but we'll let Brandon pick which ones of those he wants to share. :)

Family First - San Diego Wedding and Portrait Photographer

Whew, it's been a minute since I've updated my blog! A lot has happened since Easter, and I have a LOT of catching up to do. I'm currently taking a break since my husband's deployment is coming around the corner...so all will have to wait until then. Right now, my family time is my priority. I just got back from 3 days in Mammoth, and it was so nice to spend time in a completely different environment from San Diego. I was able to snowboard with my husband, and we spent a whopping 6 hours on the slopes with only an hour break... Little did I know that I would be sore head to toe the next day because my adrenaline was pumping. I think I worked every muscle in my body to the max. Haha! Once I get a chance to, I will post my last few sessions on here for you to see. I have a senior, boudoir, and maternity to share with you all!

But until then, I would like to share a link to a fellow photographer I know that has asked my help to spread the word of an awesome project she's doing! Kathleen is going around to different military bases around the country and taking portraits of military tattoos and what they mean to that service member. Once she gets enough, she will publish them in a book and part of the proceeds will go to USO. Please go to www.Kathleenamelia.com/blog for more details, and spread the word!

Happy Mother's Day!!!
